GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Systems Administrator works within the framework of established operating procedures and in close cooperation with internal and external support personnel.  Has responsibility for installing, supporting and maintaining servers or other computer systems, while responding to service outages and other problems as they occur.  The Systems Administrator receives technical guidance from the Senior Systems Administrator and works closely with the user community to identify and resolve system and network problems.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Assists in maintaining, administering and installing servers, including but not limited to installation and configuration of new and existing servers, server upgrades; creates and maintains accurate server and project related documentation.
  3. *Maintains backup solutions for servers.
  4. Maintains and deploys anti-virus and anti-spyware protection for the Medical Center; maintains and administers user and server security.
  5. *Tests and deploys software packages and scripts to install, update and maintain software packages on workstations.
  6. Researches specifications and makes recommendations of servers, capacity of servers and server-related hardware devices and software.
  7. Effectively uses project management tools and methodologies.
  8. *Works with departmental staff to create processes and standards to deploy new technologies.
  9. Develops, coordinates and implements schedules with vendor and users of applications to achieve a successful implementation process; works with vendors to troubleshoot and solve technical problems including network, server, printing, management tools and operating systems.
  10. Assists in the testing and documentation of new and updated software to ensure quality control and performance standards are met.
  11. Provides ongoing second level support of installed systems and end-user hardware/software issues.
  12. Provides regular feedback to management regarding system administration issues; advises management of new developments in hardware, software, systems administration, systems optimization and systems management.
  13. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree in Computer Science or equivalent field of study required.  Completion or substantial progress toward Microsoft certification preferred.  Minimum of two (2) years experience implementing, testing and troubleshooting in a Microsoft Windows environment required.  Linux server experience preferred.  VDI, VMWare Server and Citrix XenApp experience or certification preferred.
