Surgery Technical Assistant

SUMMARY

The Surgery Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the basic instrumentation and set-ups, surgical counts, and other duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Surgical Technologist or physician.  Assists with transport of the patient, blood products and specimens as requested.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

*Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

*Transfers and/or properly positions patients as assigned.

*Selects and prepares procedural surgical supplies and equipment per protocols.

*Provides assistance during surgery by retracting, sponging and cutting sutures.

*Accounts for sponges, sharps and instruments in accordance with surgery policy and procedures.

*Maintains an orderly surgical field.

*Operates equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications and departmental procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalency required.  Completion of the second semester of a surgical technologist program required. Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(DOT)—Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
