GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Under supervision, The Biomedical Electronics Technician I performs inspections, installs and services assigned medical equipment and systems utilized in the treatment, care, diagnosis and monitoring of patients.  Equipment serviced includes IV pumps, thermometers, scales, and vital sign monitors.  May also inspect, install and service non-medical equipment such as overhead paging systems, security cameras and access control.  Utilizes knowledge of manufacturer's manuals, troubleshooting techniques and preventive maintenance schedules to repair, calibrate and maintain specific medical equipment.  Provides ongoing support to staff to minimize equipment downtime and reduce user errors.  Evaluates equipment maintenance history and recommends service options to provide the most cost effective solutions while maintaining the required quality, safety and minimum amount of equipment down time.

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 

1.       *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2.      *Inspects, installs and services assigned equipment and systems; troubleshoots, calibrates and repairs specific electronic equipment or requests equipment be sent to outside service site for repair.

3.       *Maintains, administers and updates specialized hardware and software systems and maintains accurate project-related documentation.

4.      *Modifies assigned equipment to meet customer needs.

5.       *Safety tests equipment and Medical Center's structural environment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical and mechanical hazards.

6.      *Evaluates specific electronic equipment maintenance history and recommends service options to provide the most cost effective solutions while maintaining the required quality, safety, and minimum amount of equipment down time.

7.       *Complies with established safety policies and procedures at all times; informs appropriate personnel of any detected safety hazards.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Associates of Applied Science degree in Electronics or equivalency required.  Prior experience in the medical equipment service field preferred.  AAMI CBET pre-certification preferred.
