Because of our growth, we are seeking an experienced Technical Writer in the Vicksburg, MS area.

 

We are looking for a meticulous Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of USACE ERDC’s research and development activities. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, excellent written communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., senior scientists and engineers, scientists and engineers, and research assistants) to develop reports and documentation for all phases of a project.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for internal and external audiences, including user guides, documentation, technical specifications, and knowledge base articles.
• Research, organize, and synthesize technical information from various sources to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Work closely with subject matter experts to gather necessary information and validate technical content.
• Translate technical concepts into clear, easy-to-understand instructions and tutorials.
• Review and edit documentation for clarity, consistency, and adherence to company standards.
• Manage documentation updates and revisions in a timely manner to reflect product changes and improvements.
• Continuously improve documentation processes and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to technical writing and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related field.
• Must be able to complete all security requirements; training and registrations required by the federal government.
• Proven experience as a Technical Writer or similar role, preferably in scientific research.
• Proficiency in authoring tools such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with documentation platforms (e.g., SharePoint).
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex technical concepts and explain them clearly and concisely.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
• Portfolio of previous writing samples or documentation projects is preferred.
