Job Description

The Department of Surgery at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Scientific Faculty at the assistant, associate or professor level with a PhD. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. This position plays a key research leadership role in the division. Preference will be given to applicants with an established publication and funding record.

Once established, the preferred candidate will be expected to compete and secure internal and extramural research funding at the local-regional and national levels. The scientist will have a fundamental leadership position in the divisions Center for Organogenesis and Trauma (CORT) with the aim of cultivating basic and translational science collaboration at the individual, team, and multidisciplinary levels. Responsibilities will include optimization of the basic and translational research infrastructure within the Division and Department to conduct clinical trials, government funded, and industry sponsored investigations. The leadership position will help cultivate junior faculty, post-doctoral trainees, surgical residents, and medical students toward efficient scientific achievement and investigative autonomy. Faculty will have the opportunity to apply to seek opportunities with the Center for Mineral Metabolism, Children's Research Institute, Cancer Center and Center for Regenerative Science and Medicine. CORT members hold large NIH, CPRIT and DOD awards across a diverse portfolio including burn injury, muscle fibrosis, lymphatic biology and cancer biology. Members of CORT are known internationally for theirseminal contributions across surgical specialties, and it continues to have activelaboratories and clinical research programsaimed at improving patient care and gaining abetter understanding of the cellular,molecular, and genetic basis of cell fate and inflammation. Division members are committed to scholarship and are the authors of scores of publications each year. The divisionis also a part of severalmulti-institutional federally funded researchstudies, including the SiVENT trial and studies originating from the LITES consortiums. This continues a long history of leadership in multi-institutional consortium participation, including in the previously successful Resuscitation OutcomesConsortium and the Trauma Glue Grant.
