Job Description

Delivers a balanced program of instruction to a class when the assigned instructor is unavailable.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Instructs students during school.
  • Implements and modifies both group and individual lesson plans for instructional experiences for students in accordance with established curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Instructs students utilizing a variety of classroom methods, adapting methodology and instructional materials to meet student needs, abilities, and IEPs.
  • Works with classroom teacher assistants and supports staff to implement teacher's lesson plans.
  • Implements behavioral protocols; observes and evaluates student behavior, performance, social development, and physical health.
  • Maintains positive professional communications with parents, guardians, administration, and colleagues regarding progress and concerns.
  • Provides close supervision of students in all settings, including the playground.
  • In applicable classrooms, assigns and grades class work and homework as needed and may administer and grade tests.
  • In applicable classrooms, complies with applicable policies and procedures for a youth physical intervention (personal restraint) in the event of emergency safety situations.
  • In applicable classrooms, demonstrates a commitment to the use of a behavioral approach to motivate student learning.
  • In applicable classrooms, incorporates social skills instruction into daily classroom activities.
  • In applicable classrooms, assists children with self-help skills to include dressing, diapering, toileting, and eating.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of state policies, statutes, and procedures on education and regulations of Nebraska.
  • Ability to deliver instruction in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ability to modify or adapt general education curriculum.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professional competence via in-service education, self-selected professional education, and curriculum development.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the use of a behavioral approach to motivate student learning.
  • Ability to demonstrate concern and respect for individual students.
  • Ability to communicate concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess a commitment to and ability to work with boys and girls with special academic and emotional needs.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school required.
  • Current Nebraska Teaching Certificate or Nebraska Substitute Teacher Certificate or a Local Substitute Teacher Certificate required.
  • PEM and nationally recognized personal restraint model must be obtained if subbing in the RTC or select settings required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Background and experience to include work with learning disabled and behaviorally impaired learners preferred.
  • Special Education endorsement preferred.
  • Current CPR certification preferred.
