Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Energy Plant Operator I operates the energy plant including identifying, analyzing and completing all preventative maintenance, repair and adjustment of steam, chilled water, hot water and soft water producing equipment; ensures daily work schedule and project assignments are completed through individual or cooperative efforts. Works under the leadership and direction of the energy plant operator lead and the engineering manager.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Monitors and controls the operation of multiple gas and oil fired boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air compressors, and auxiliary equipment.
3. * Performs preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments of Energy Plant equipment and other mechanical equipment in accordance with federal, state, hospital policies/standards and manufacturing specifications as assigned.
4. *Communicates/interfaces with hospital personnel, patients, visitors and vendors as appropriate.
5. *Selects equipment to operate based on building load and outdoor conditions and operates according to manufacturer's recommendations, applicable standards, codes and precautions; adjusts as needed to assure most efficient operation.
6. *Monitors Energy Plant equipment through computerized software application, routine testing/maintenance and visual inspection to detect operational problems as required by departmental procedure.
7. *Completes preventative maintenance procedures on equipment in a timely manner as scheduled by the CMMS..
8. Performs system and equipment repairs during scheduled outages of steam, chilled water, condensate, heating hot water systems, and air handling units.
9. *Responds to alarms on facility management system and is aware of the criticality and impact of system failure or shut down on patient safety and comfort.
10. *Accurately and neatly records all operating conditions of the plant; logs operational changes in equipment and records all calls for work to the Energy Plant.
11. *Accurately read meters, computes consumption and records information on the log sheet at the end of each shift.
12. Follows all safety programs including lock out/tag out program.
13. Assists with elevator maintenance. Verifies problems, removes trapped passengers, calls for service, and maintains work records.
14. *May respond to all Energy Plant related calls after hours and on weekends; evaluates and initiates repair or notifies appropriate personnel based on the urgency of the situation.
15. *Performs operational procedures and cleaning assignments as required during work shift; maintains tools and work areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
16. *Follows the handling, storage and disposal procedures of testing products and refuse as specified on the MSDS.
17. Advances work knowledge by attending continuing education seminars, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing educational opportunities.
18. *Uses proper safety devices and techniques to protect self and others; follows correct procedures and responds to emergency plans in accordance with hospital and department policies.
19. Follows policies and procedures when responding to calls outside of the Energy Plant; properly determines needed actions based the problem and knowledge of repair/intervention necessary.
20. *Performs other related duties as assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Coursework/technical training in engineering systems preferred. Minimum of two (2) years' experience working with boiler or energy plant systems preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid State of Nebraska drivers license required. Verification and maintenance of responsible driving record per facility standards required.

Complete Underground Storage Tank Class C Operator Training
