Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Part of the Student Affairs Division and reports directly to the Director of Academic Support Services. Assists in planning, organizing and implementing the operations of the Academic Success Center and it's services. Assists the Director in the development of effective academic support services for students and coordinates the delivery of multiple support services, including the Supplemental Instruction Program, the Writing Center, Peer Tutoring Program, and other wrap-around programs offered through the Academic Success Center.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Assists the Director of Academic Support in developing, managing and implementing campus academic support programs to all students at Bryan College of Health Sciences.

3. *Provides recommendations for peer tutors and assists with selection and and on-going training of all peer tutoring programs that are routed in best practices.

4. *Assists in implementing and supervising the coordination of multiple student support services and other forms of instructional assistance that enhance the student's ability to succeed.

5. Specific support services include: Supplemental Instruction Program, Writing Center, Peer Tutoring Program, Virtual Tutoring, Study tables, and proctoring make-up tests.

6. *Coordinates all operations of the Peer Student Tutor Program (approximately 10-12 tutors per semester), to include recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision.

7. *Develops promotional materials to market the services of the Academic Success Center to prospective and current students, parents, faculty and staff.

8. Implements and maintains the Academic Success Center website.

9. *Coordinates, plans and implements special academic assistance services and events including student study days, pop-up writing center tables, and other activities to engage students in their learning process and academic skill development.

10. Collaborates with other student service staff to provide a comprehensive and complimentary system of services to students with the goal of academic success and retention.

11. Provide academic support for English Learning Language (ELL) students.

12. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

13. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

14. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

2. Knowledge of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability/ability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of college students.

3. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

5. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

6. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

7. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

8. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree required. Prior experience in providing academic support and/or development education programs and services in a higher education environment required.
