Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for conducting analysis of clinical data for integrity, trends and improvement opportunities that support patient-centered outcomes (care quality, patient experience, patient safety, health equity) aligned with organizational goals. Facilitates ongoing compliance with government, clinical and operational performance measures, objectives and programs. Collaborates regularly with leadership and front line staff across Bryan Health.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Develops expertise in quality programs with CMS, commercial payers and accreditation organizations.
  3. *Retrieves and assembles data to support quality improvement initiatives, compliance with regulations/standards and organizational goals.
  4. *Performs data analysis using a variety of methods, identifying key insights and trends.
  5. *Ensures data quality, governance and standards are met.
  6. *Creates informative and engaging visualizations for stakeholders using multiple methods and tools.
  7. *Consults with leaders, providers, staff and students requesting clinical data and data management.
  8. *Consults with leaders, providers, and teams to develop metrics and actionable insights.
  9. Provides coaching to clinicians on clinical documentation improvement opportunities as well as opportunities involving coding and reimbursement.
  10. Retrieves/abstracts data for regulatory and voluntary reporting.
  11. Leverages clinical knowledge to align metrics with clinical workflows, regulatory requirements, and evidence based practice.
  12. Reviews published reports, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements related to healthcare quality.
  13. Maintains professional growth and development in healthcare quality through courses, webinars, publications, coaching/mentoring, or professional affiliations.
  14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
  15. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of disease process to include basic anatomy and physiology.
  2. Knowledge of medical and pharmacological terminology.
  3. Knowledge of hospital systems including the design and function of hospital medical records.
  4. Knowledge of coding principles and appropriate coding for reimbursement.
  5. Knowledge of quality improvement principles and methods.
  6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
  7. Knowledge of data management, basic statistical analysis, and basic principles of informatics.
  8. Skill in Microsoft Office suite with more advanced skill in data analysis/visualization programs.
  9. Ability to define, measure/collect, analyze, and visualize complex data to communicate meaning.
  10. Ability to analyze integrity of data.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  12. Ability to manage technical projects.
  13. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relative to sensitive information.
  15. Ability to work as a team member with multi-disciplinary teams as leader or participant.
  16. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer, ancillary departments and vendors.
  17. Ability to provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to colleagues.
  18. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Nursing, Allied Health or related field required. Directly related professional experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred. Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act preferred. Minimum of three (3) years experience in a clinical area, healthcare quality, public health or a related role required.
