Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides clerical, receptionist and clinical support to help facilitate the provision of patient care. Handles and protects confidential patient information and maintains the physical environment of the work area.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Collaborates with other departments in a professional, helpful and courteous manner

3. *Performs additional clerical functions and related duties as appropriate to the unit assigned, including but not

4. limited to filing, photocopying, maintaining patient logs, generating reports, maintaining unit records and miscellaneous general office duties.

5. *Answers the telephone in a prompt and courteous manner.

6. *Responsible for the initiation of contact with outside healthcare agencies, to include provider consults, record retrieval, and general information collection.

7. *Receives, greets and directs patients, physicians, visitors, and Medical Center personnel, and provides accurate responses in a friendly, helpful and courteous manner.

8. *Assists in the transportation of patients and/or patient records as needed.

9. *Maintains confidential environment when communicating patient information; promptly reports priority patient information to appropriate caregiver.

10. *Maintains appropriate supplies inventory on the unit.

11. May pass/pick up meal trays, answer call lights, obtain blood/blood products according to procedure, transport specimens to lab and assist with dismissal and transferring of patients.

12. Delivers medications (drugs or biologicals) received on the unit to the appropriate staff.

13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

15. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

2. Knowledge of general hospital processes and procedures.

3. Knowledge of general office procedures and standard clerical practices.

4. Skill in the operation of a personal computer, photocopier, and general office equipment.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

6. Ability to follow directions and document information accurately.

7. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

9. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

10. Ability to interpret and understand medical terminology.

11. Ability to organize and maintain records and filing systems.

12. Ability to record information and/or data and compose/synthesize the information.

13. Ability to transport patients and patient-related items to other in-house facility destinations.

14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

15. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

16. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalency required. Previous hospital experience in a clerical or technical position preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desired.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

At Manager's Discretion: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
