Job Description

Acting as a resource to the operating room staff, the Sterile Processing Tech plays an essential role in patient safety and infection control. You will be responsible for ensuring surgical instruments and equipment is decontaminated and reprocessed and maintained at Boys Town East and West operating suites. You will also be responsible for the care of delicate and specialty instrumentation and the monitoring of sterile supplies, autoclaves and inventory control.

Schedule: M-F/9:00 AM-5:30 PM
Hiring Bonus: $5,000.00

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Follows ST79 and ST91 Standards.
  • Performs, monitors, interprets, and records testing and validation of sterilization processes.
  • Inspects and maintains integrity of instruments routinely. Uses contracted service for repairs as needed.
  • Decontaminates, disinfects, assembles, and sterilizes instruments per departmental policy.
  • Cleans autoclaves according to manufacturer's recommendations; maintains a clean working environment.
  • Maintains and inventories sterile supplies and instruments within sterile processing.
  • Participates in performance improvement projects and maintaining "The Joint Commission" readiness.
  • Validates sterilization process has been completed and verified prior to instrument and implants being released.
  • Communicates to the surgical team availability of instruments and implants.
  • Works in collaboration with supervisor, directors, assistant directors, and senior staff for instrument acquisition.
  • Works in collaboration with senior staff and surgical team to improve quality and efficiency of throughput.
  • Logs disposition of received instrumentation from company representatives.
  • Follows Standard precautions i.e.; (hand hygiene, ppe).
  • Assists with processing of instruments from BTNRH clinics and ancillary departments.
  • Promotes a positive team environment. Willingly floats to both East & West hospitals to fulfill staffing needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to read and comprehend sterilization logs to ensure sterilizations procedures have been followed.
  • Ability to work well under time constraints.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of surgical instruments identification.
  • Ability to operate autoclave, sterrad, washer/sterilizer, V-Pro Max, various medical and surgical equipment, instruments, and delivery carts.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff,
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Sterile Processing Tech I
  • High School education or equivalent required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of one year of experience in sterile processing, CRCST certification preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Sterile Processing Tech II

  • High School education or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in instrument decontamination and sterilization processing required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management required.
  • Maintain all level of regulatory requirements and certifications required.
