POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Cabinet Shop Foreman Supervisor reports to the Cabinet Shop Manager.
  • Located in Omaha, NE.

The Woodshop Foreman must have 5 years 'hands-on' custom woodworking. Performs supervisory responsibilities for managing a skilled cabinet shop where individuals handle the construction, and installation of tables, desks, cabinets, chairs, shelving, bookcases, and other related work. This individual is also responsible for the supervision of the floor covering installers and the locksmiths.

This individual is responsible for planning, supervising, and assigning the work of employees engaged in carpentry and cabinet work for all types of wooden furniture and equipment. Work also includes personal participation as a master craftsman. Work is performed under the general direction of the shop manager and is reviewed through discussions and inspection of completed work. Our candidate will have a flexible mindset, knows multiple woodworking methods, and can set-up and work safely with all types of professional grade woodworking equipment. As Woodshop Foreman, you will schedule, communicate, and manage weekly shop production to safely & effectively meet budget and delivery timing. You must be well-organized and able to keep a clean woodshop environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, lays out, and supervises all work of the cabinet shop; advises carpenters on a solution of problems relating to cabinet making and carpentry repairs.
  • Assigns subordinate personnel to work details and inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure that it meets required standards; inspects items reported to be in need of repair; estimates time, materials, and costs for work to be built, repaired, and refinished.
  • Supervises and participates in the construction, installation, refinishing, and repairs of cabinets, desks, tables, shelves, and the other articles of furniture; lays out outline and dimensions on lumber stock according to drawing and blueprint designs and specifications.
  • Supervises the operation and maintenance of woodworking machines including table saws, planers, jointers, wood lathes, drill presses, and other machines and tools used to cut, shape, and assemble parts from stock.
  • Estimates construction costs.
  • Maintains records and reports material, labor, and time costs; requisitions supplies, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Recruits and trains personnel in the safe operation of equipment and tools.
  • Enforces safety regulations, rules, and working conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned

COMPETENCIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, equipment, materials, tools, and practices of the cabinet making trade.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the construction trades.
  • Ability to effectively supervise skilled workers.
  • Ability to interpret and work from penciled sketches, drawings, plans, and blueprints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and other university personnel.
  • Ability to make and project material and labor estimates.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate with superiors, subordinates, vendors and university personnel.
  • Skill in the use and care of standard tools and equipment of the carpentry, cabinet making, and woodworking trades.
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency with MS Word, Excel, & Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED; 5 years of related experience including supervisory or lead experience and considerable experience as a journeyman cabinet maker, or equivalent Military or practical experience.
  • 5+ years cabinet making or wood shop experience
  • Foodservice industry experience
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check post offer acceptance.

Pay for this position will reflect the candidate's unique qualifications and may be higher or lower than the range provided based on employee geographic location. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other local, state, and federal law.
