Job Description

Research Technician 3 to assist and support scientific investigation to study the mechanisms of hearing loss as directed in the Department of Otolaryngology; provides assistance in support of animal research in the auditory neuroscience laboratory; assists with data collection in animal experiments including hearing test, post hoc immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelors Degree in neuroscience, biological sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

Experience in research capacity desired; knowledge or experience in working with live mice desired; experience performing basic laboratory procedures to process biological specimens desired; computer skill required with knowledge of image processing software applications desired.
