Job Summary:
The Transportation Technician is an integral member of the health care team providing patient, equipment and information transportation, clerical and equipment coordination services to patients and co-workers. The Transportation Technician interacts with patients, families, Nursing, and a variety of interdisciplinary personnel and possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills and maintains a high standard of confidentiality.
Essential Functions:
* Transports patients via stretcher, wheelchair, bed, escort, or other means to various areas within the hospital and Medical Office Buildings.
* Assists hospital staff with movement of patients on/off stretchers, wheelchairs, or beds.
* Transports deceased to morgue.
* Transports equipment, a variety of supplies, patient belongings, pharmaceuticals, medical records, patient related information, specimens, CSR carts, or storeroom materials to and from hospital areas and the Medical Office Bldgs.
* Provides messenger/ equipment delivery to codes.
* Attaches/detaches and checks oxygen gauges and associated tubing to provide oxygen supply to patient during transportation.
* Distributes patient care equipment.
* Retrieves, decontaminates, and performs maintenance on reusable equipment between patient use according to established procedures. Makes sure equipment is operating properly.
* Ensures that all equipment (both office and patient) is clean, safe, and is properly tagged or labeled.
* Maintains adequate and accurate records which monitors the operation and effectiveness of equipment.
* Generates charges for supplies, equipment, and services as appropriate.
* Provides Messenger/Equipment Rounds Service to all hospital departments and Medical Office Buildings.
* Transports patients to and from Radiology working independently from exam schedule.
* Retrieves, documents, and delivers store room items utilizing computer applications to locate and obtain items.
* Communicates pertinent information about the servicing of areas to appropriate personnel as necessary.
* Maintains confidentiality of information related to individual patients and patient care units.
* Provides other related duties as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
* Incumbent is considered essential during disaster situations.
* Assists in delivering clean linen carts to patient and ancillary units when needed.

Qualifications:
Education
* High school Diploma preferred
Experience
* 6 months of experience in hospital setting helpful
Knowledge and Skills
* Good reading and exemplary verbal communication skills in the English language
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, problem solve, get along with others, and confront issues appropriately
* Knowledge of special needs and behaviors or infant, child, adolescent, adult and older adult patients preferred
* Proficient in the use of the Premise Transport Application.
Physical Environment:
Duties may involve general cleaning with exposure to dirt, odors, cramped quarters, etc.; or include patient care responsibilities with subsequent exposure to human waste, or other unpleasant elements; or much of work may be performed outdoors with exposure to weather extremes.
