Job Description

Job Summary

Responsible for the efficient operation of a section or depart of the repair shop. Supervise and coordinate activities of hourly employees involved in car repair and car maintenance operations including production methods and processes and proper use of materials, tools, and equipment.

Job Duties

* Review car work orders to assure all AAR and AITX procedures are followed throughout the repair process * Coordinate hourly employees to assure car repair timelines are followed and all repair activities are completed as efficiently as possible * Monitor work in process to assure quality and time standards are being met for all car repairs * Assist General Foreman - Production in resolving personnel problems, advising in disciplinary proceedings, conduct grievance hearings and safety meetings * Recommend and implement improvements in production methods, machines and equipment, maintenance, safety and working conditions; conduct required training sessions for new processes and equipment

Experience and Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent is desired
  • Approximately of 5 years' experience in the railcar repair industry or equivalent skill set
  • Experience as a supervisor is preferred
  • A solid background and experience in the railroad industry, technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and good communication skills are highly valued and is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability utilizing problem-solving skills, within a production environment, preferred
  • Must have excellent organizational skills with a detailed- and process-oriented approach
  • Must have the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of management & subject matter experts
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Knowledge of repair operations including safety, quality, productivity, inventory management, equipment reliability, scheduling, shift staffing, and environmental compliance
