Nokia technologies patent portfolio team manages our industry-leading patent portfolio to support the growth of Nokia's licensing business. It is a global unit of IPR professionals. This team accelerates value creation from Nokia's patent portfolio and R&D, drives results from research to innovations, and monetized Nokia's world class patent portfolio.

Senior Patent Manager, Multimedia SEP technical analysis:

Our team is looking for a skilled patent professional with experience in patent assertion, claim chart drafting, defending, and patent litigation support activities. The qualified candidate should have a history of claim chart presentation to 3rd parties.

The candidate should be capable of handling multiple licensing projects in parallel including discussing the technical aspects of patents and claim charts.

Looking for a team player who can work well with other attorneys, deal leads and technical team members. Experience in video coding and streaming technologies is mandatory.


In this role, you will have a direct impact on the management and monetization of Nokia's world class Multimedia patent portfolio.

A representative list, but not exhaustive, of the main responsibility areas include:

  • Provide technical opinion and perform prior-art search and validity analysis on patents in multimedia technology areas, with a focus on video compression.
  • Prepare claim charts.
  • Participate in technical licensing discussions, present claim charts to potential licensees and defend against counter arguments.
  • Prosecute selected patent families relevant to licensing and litigation programs.
  • Assist in patent litigation activities.

Locations: United States, Finland, Germany, United Kingdom, and India


You have:

  • Expertise in video compression codecs (e.g. H.26X, AV1, or VP9).
  • Several years of experience in patent prosecution and/or technical analysis.
  • Experience in reviewing patent applications and generating claim charts.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

It would be nice if you also had:

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar area.
  • Qualified as an EP patent attorney.
  • Attendance and contribution to MPEG and JVET standardization meetings.
