Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: WIS-PAK of NORFOLK Position: Can-Line Machine Operator Reports To: Supervisor/ Lead Person Date: 09/26/2017

JOB SUMMARY
  • Under the supervision of the Production Supervisor, the Can-Line Machine Operator operates and monitors high speed floor machine which packs cans into a box, glues the box and may tape two boxes together then sends box to the palletizer.

JOB DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Note: The job functions relate to the job, not the individual)
  • Monitor the Hi-Cone, Standard Knap tray maker, Mead packers, Douglas wrapper, Straub taper, and related production equipment to ensure manufacturing standards are met and to prevent possible malfunctioning.
  • Observe quality of product and remove any defective cans from the production line. Check cartons for correct graphics and proper gluing. Correct any tipped cans or jams. Make adjustments as needed.
  • At the end of each package run, calculate and record the number of cases produced, raw materials used, and damaged product reports.
  • Check can and case codes frequently for accuracy and legibility.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on machines as needed.
  • Keep Hi-Cone, Standard Knap tray maker, Douglas shrink wrapper, Staub taper machines supplied with the correct raw materials. Transport material from inventory to work area using a forklift.
  • Rework partial pallets of full products either add to pallet or put on full case conveyor.
  • Follow all clean up procedures both on machines and work area. Comply with all safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to read and write basic English.
  • Accurately record cases produced, raw materials used and damaged product at the end of each package run.
  • Fill out partial pallets.
  • Follow all Food Safety and GMP Policies.
JOB DUTIES/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS (Not fundamental job duties)
  • Supply raw materials to the line.
  • Rework products as needed.
  • Light maintenance duties on related machines.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires basic math and writing skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to follow directions and be alert at all times.
  • Must be able to work under minimum supervision and be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
  • Must be able to drive a forklift and have the ability to pass the test for Forklift Operators License.
  • Must be able to report to work on time on a consistent basis and be able to work well with others in a team setting.
  • Basic mechanical skills are helpful.
