Position: Specialty Services Logistics Technician

Location: IL Masonic hospital; Chicago's Northside neighborhood (Wrigleyville Neighborhood)

Full Time; Day Shift

~Hours: 6am-2:30pm

Major Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management
    • Remove all empty supply / inventory bins left in place by clinical staff on the wire racks of any 2-Bin inventory system within a respective inventory location, pulling the rear supply/inventory bin forward on the rack.
    • Be responsible for managing all expedite requests for any supply / inventory items. Review any request for expedite with the Supply Chain Manager prior to placing a requisition for any such orders. An expedited order is defined as any supply / inventory being requested for order for delivery in any manner other than standard delivery.
    • Review the analytics associated with non-conforming supply items on a weekly basis, reviewing supply items by inventory location and by SKU for the purpose of determining the root cause and corrective action necessary to mitigate the re-occurrence of a non-conforming supply item. Review all proposed corrective actions with the Manager Supply Chain prior to implementation.
    • Put away all supplies / inventory in the appropriate and designated inventory location on a daily, or as required, basis, placing all inventory / supplies in their proper storage location in a first expired, first out (FEFO) order. Rotate all inventory supply items accordingly. Conduct a 100% inspection of all inventory / supply items in each inventory location and in each respective bin or holding location on a regular basis. Remove any non-conforming supply / inventory items detected and place them in the respective non-conforming green supply bin. At least once per week, or sooner if required, gather all non-conforming supply items and transport them to the General Stores. Register and log each non-conforming supply item in the Advocate Non-Conforming Supply portal, including all pertinent information, unless the Supervisor reassigns this responsibility to a different associate.
    • Be responsible for visually inspecting each inventory location assigned for the purpose of performing housekeeping duties, including, but not limited to, straightening all supply / inventory bins, removing all non-standard supply / inventory items or other incorrect products left in each respective inventory location, remove all debris, trash, cardboard or other clutter and ensure all 2-Bin racks are aligned, neat and orderly.
    • Manage all specialty supply inventory within specialty departments (including but not limited to surgical areas, Cath lab, I/R/ E.P) via the 2-Bin inventory management process, including all stock, non-stock, suture, endo-mechanical and anesthesia supply items; Support all clinical requirements for inventory in relation to the provision of patient and clinical care within the Surgical OR, and other non-Surgical OR inventory locations as assigned.
    • Review, manage and adjust, as necessary, all 2-Bin inventory locations at a frequency as established within DemandTrack, or as otherwise required.
    • Remove all empty bins from designated inventory locations and scan the empty bins via the Lawson Mobile Supply Chain provided scanner; Be responsible on a daily basis for maintaining, charging and securing the Lawson Mobile Supply Chain Scanner so as to protect against theft, loss or damage.
    • Pick and pack all replenishment supplies / inventory from the General Stores on a regular basis, in accordance with work schedule assignment, as required according to the 2-Bin process.
    • Transport all supplies / inventory from the point of pick / pack to the respective inventory location at the associated point-of-care location.
  • Leadership Support and Collaboration
    • At all times support specialty leadership and all clinical Surgical associates with open communication and performing reasonable assignments as requested from time to time.
    • Serve as a vacation replacement for the Surgical OR Perioperative Coordinator as required. (varies by site)
    • Communicate with specialty department leadership any instances of non-conforming products that are detected or gathered from any green bin contained within the Surgical OR at any time.
    • Proactively communicate with specialty department leadership any inventory issues related to any inventory stock-out, backorder, delay or other issue of note.
  • Inventory Usage Analytics
    • Be responsible for reviewing, adjusting and managing, as required, all potential obsolete and potential overstock inventory items, keeping the aggregate value below target state and demonstrating ongoing continuous improvement capabilities.
    • Utilize the Advocate Logistics Index and associated analytics on an ongoing and regular basis.
    • Review, monitor and manage all inventory SKU related analytics via the use of Advocate's DemandTrack application.
    • Adjust all SKUs turning faster than targeted in DemandTrack (Red signal)and all SKUs turning slower than targeted in DemandTrack (Blue signal) until stabilized and optimized.


Education/Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2-3 Experience in perioperative inventory management with operating knowledge of specialty departments included. (Specialty departments can include the following or variations of the following: Cath Lab, surgical OR, I/R, E.P.)


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Strong computer skills; Ability to use a barcode scanner; Lawson ERP knowledge; 2-Bin inventory management knowledge; PAR replenishment and cycle count capability.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • This position will require moving various types of inventory containers, as well as bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, stretching, computer reading, and data entry.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.
