Overview:
US ITER is seeking an experienced Project Engineer with a background in the design, specification, and procurement of mechanical & structural hardware by US ITER for the Plasma Heating Systems team! This will include a broad spectrum of hardware ranging from state-of-the-art custom designed components to commercially available equipment which will operate in radiation and electromagnetic environments. Project Engineers manage and provide oversight of design and/or manufacturing contracts of various sizes. You will collaborate with vendors, engineering personnel within the US ITER project and personnel at the ITER headquarters in France. You will interface with QA personnel to review and approve supplier manufacturing plan milestones and agreed intervention points. In this capacity, the project engineer will serve the role of Control Technical Project Officer (TPO).
The United States is a partner nation in ITER, an unprecedented international collaboration of scientists andengineers working to design, construct, and assemble a burning plasma experiment that can demonstrate thescientific and technological feasibility of fusion energy. A self-heated burning plasma is a crucial step in fusionenergy development. US ITER is a DOE Office of Science project hosted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory(ORNL) in Tennessee. Partner labs are Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) and Savannah RiverNational Laboratory (SRNL). ITER's other partners are the People's Republic of China, the European Union, India,Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Russian Federation.
